Legislative Deadlines

2025 Post-Session Deadlines:

August 6, 2025 – Bills passed with “Act Subject to Petition” clauses become effective at 12:01 a.m., if no referendum petition is filed against it.
August 16, 2025 – Bill filing deadline for the First Extraordinary Session of the Seventy-Fifth General Assembly.
August 21, 2025 – The First Extraordinary Session of the Seventy-Fifth General Assembly convenes at 10:00 a.m.
September 19, 2025 – Last day for interim committees to meet to request legislation.
October 10, 2025 – Deadline for interim committees to finalize bill drafts.
October 31, 2025 – Last day for interim committees to meet and approve legislation.
November 15, 2025 – Deadline for the Legislative Council to approve interim committee bills

2026 Session Deadlines:

December 1, 2025 – Deadline for legislators to submit three (of five) bill requests to the Office of Legislative Legal Services.
January 9, 2026 – Deadline for all legislators to file for introduction one of their first three bill requests.
January 14, 2026 – Convening Day for the 2026 Legislative Session.
January 20, 2026 – Deadline for legislators to submit the last two (of five) bill requests to the Office of Legislative Legal Services.
January 23, 2026 – Deadline for Senators to file for introduction the other two of their first three bill requests.
January 30, 2026 – Deadline for Representatives to file for introduction the other two of their first three bill requests.
February 6, 2026 – Deadline for Senators to file for introduction the last two (of five) bill requests.
February 13, 2026 – Deadline for Representatives to file for introduction the last two (of five) bill requests.
February 27, 2026 – House Committee reporting deadline for House bills introduced by the 17th legislative day.
March 6, 2026 – Senate Committee reporting deadline for Senate bills.
March 13, 2026 – House Committee reporting deadline for remaining House bills.
March 20, 2026 – Final passage deadline for House bills in the House and Senate bills in the Senate.
March 30-April 3, 2026 – Long Bill in House.
April 6 – 10, 2026 – Long Bill in Senate.
April 10, 2026 – Deadline to submit drafting requests for resolutions and memorials.
April 13, 2026 – Deadline for legislators to file for introduction resolutions and memorials.
April 17, 2026 – Deadline for legislators to submit written requests to the Legislative Council for any interim studies.
April 17, 2026 – Committee reporting deadline for bills originating in the other house.
April 17, 2026 – Deadline for any conference committee report on the Long Bill to be adopted.
April 24, 2026 – Final passage deadline, including any conference committee report, for any school finance bills.
April 28, 2026 – Final passage deadline for Senate bills in the House and House bills in the Senate.
May 1, 2026 – Appropriation Committee reporting deadline for bills referred to it in the house of introduction.
May 6, 2026 – Final passage deadline in the house of introduction for all bills referred to the Appropriations Committee in that house.
May 11, 2026 – Appropriation Committee reporting deadline for bills referred to it in the second house.
May 13, 2026 – Final passage deadline in the second house for all bills referred to the Appropriations Committee in that house.
May 13, 2026 – 120th Day of Session – Adjournment Sine Die.
